Cladding or renovating a staircase

In new builds and renovations alike, stair cladding allows the staircase to be fully integrated into the interior concept. On an existing staircase, it is often possible to renovate the material in place or to cover the steps without having to rebuild everything.

Parquet, carpet, resilient flooring, laminate, stair runner or stair mats: we advise you on the solution suited to the structure of your staircase, how it is used and the look you want.

Why take care over your stair cladding?

Aesthetics — Harmonise the staircase with the rest of your interior.

Continuity — Extend the floor covering onto the steps and create a coherent whole.

Renovation — Transform an existing staircase without necessarily rebuilding everything.

Comfort — Make the steps more pleasant in everyday use.

Safety — Choose a surface and finishes suited to repeated foot traffic.

Made to measure — Straight or turning: the cladding is adapted to the geometry of your staircase.

As every staircase is different, we advise you on the solution and finishes suited to its configuration, its use and the look you want.

Your questions about stair cladding

No. A textile covering intended for a staircase must be suitable for this use and sufficiently resistant to the concentrated stresses, particularly at the stair nosing. We check the product’s suitability before recommending it to you.

Depending on the structure and use, a staircase can be clad with parquet, carpet, certain resilient flooring products, laminate, a stair runner or stair mats.

Often, yes. Depending on its condition and structure, the existing staircase can be renovated or clad without having to be completely rebuilt. It is even possible to work over an existing covering such as tiles, marble or terrazzo.

Choosing a suitable covering, a surface with good grip and carefully executed finishes on the steps and stair nosings helps make moving around safer.
